Hi everyone, now that Christmas is out of the way (thank goodness) it is time to start getting our thinking caps on for raising money. I will be looking for ideas and also for volunteers to help out with any event we do/attend. Its not a lot to ask to give up a few hours of your time considering that all money raised is for you and for the club. Lets really make an effort so that we can get everything you want for the club.

Also if you have any ideas as to how you would like the money ...

All the platforms are built now. We need a donation of stain

or fence paint or the like .So see if your dads have any spare in the

shed .Plus when we get some we need bodies to paint the platforms .

Lancashire Police Match

The police match is happening again for the 3rd year.

This time there is one in Lancaster and one in Carnforth.

Diane emailed me a flyer of the one in Lancaster.

WE HAD BEEN MISSED OFF AGAIN!!!!!!!!

At the bottom of the flyer it says who the match is sponsored by, there is a man in Carnforth on it, a tackle shop in Lancaster and 2 angling clubs.

NONE OF WHICH ARE US!!!!!

its not the first time this has happened and Im tired of it.

I have remembered where Ste & I went Barbel Bashing in Yorkshire.

I sent the river owners an email and guess what!!................

We can go!

It is �5 per day for fishing & �5 per night to camp by the river!!!!

So its �10 per day + food + bait + fuel.

Because this is a river it will be SENSIBLE anglers only!

Rivers are dangerous, they can kill - so its 2 members to 1 adult.

So far there is only me going, so 2 places available.

Horseshoe lake May 08

Pete and his Mum & Dad went up to Horseshoe Lake this evening (14th May). The Heron was in the shallow end of the conservation area, but it flew off as we were going through the gate.

We just took 2 whips with us and some pinkies. No chairs or anything, we just sat on the platforms like garden gnomes!

We were in the pegs near the picnic table.

Lots of fish were moving about and Mum was first to catch, a Roach. Then a couple of Rudd. Missed loads of bites as well.

Coots nest

We have our first coots nest!!

It is on the farm side of the lake, between the garden bench and the life ring.

Notices have been put up not to fish there.

There are 4 eggs, mum & dad are on the lake. The eggs have not been abandoned, the parents go back regualrly.

To stop the parents eating our fry fish , please could everyone bring some bread and/ or cat biscuits up to the lake.

The carp were crashing around at 5pm ish by the way!

This summer we are holding our Teddy-Bola stall at various events in the area. We did this last year and raised a lot of money for the club. We do however need lots more Teddies/Soft Toys. So, if you have any that you would like to donate, please contact myself, Jo, or any committee member and we will gladly take them off your hands. We can make 100% profit from donated goods. If we have to buy teddies first, the profits are a lot less.

I am just doing the sweep stake forms now!! for the 72 hour mega night lesson.

Anybody who wants a form will you please tell me, ring me or PM me

let me know what weight you want eg: 2oz, 2& 1/2 oz up to 15 & 1/2 oz

The weights go up by lbs from 1lb to 100lb with only the ounces different.

or you can put your own guess eg: 200lb & 4oz

This is a good way to raise money for the club and you could win �20.00!!!!

15th of June - teddy & sweet tombola, or teddybola & fish 4a prize, Williamson Park, starts 12, ends 5pm.

We urgently need people to help ALL day! A few hours is better than nothing!

Lake Visits

Liam, Tom Walker and his grandad went to the lake onthe 5th January and did some fishing. Nothing was caught but Liam fed the fish and Tom's Grandad brought some planks to make the pegs. Everything looked fine and there were no more fishy remains

On the 25th of May we have a collection at Morrisons.

We also have a match at Borwick.

The match is just a bit of fun and is nothing to do with MAD!

We are fishing with the maggotdrowners lot so it should be good fun and there should be a fair bit of good natured banter.

So far Jo is fishing it, Owen, James, Sam & Liam.

Who else fancies their chances??

The price is �6 for young members (�12 for Jo & Owen)

Jo's tips for Horseshoe

Because the weather is still fairly cold, what I would do is:

Fish a ledger rod

Use a micro open ended swim feeder

Mix some sensas red roach & rudd groundbait fairly dryly

Mix in some chopped worms and pinkies and micro pellet, but not many

Fish chopped worm on an 18 or 20 barbless hook

I cant do any more than tell you how to fish it, except maybe beat you all, hahahaha

but a disease is rumoured to have been found at a fishery near to our lake.

It sounds like a really bad disease and one we cant have in our lake.

Jo & Ken have taken the unsual step of making a decision, without consulation of the committee, for the good of our lake.

With IMMEDIATE EFFECT ALL NETS ARE BANNED AT HORSESHOE LAKE!!

There are clean nets at the lake and ONLY these nets may be used!

Bradford V Morecambe match

On the 5th of April we are having our first lesson at Horseshoe Lake.

There is also a 'grudge' match going on between Bradford City (yeah kwl) & Morecambe (booooooo) hahahaha

Jo is going to the match so will NOT be teaching fishing that day.

Jo is going to the match but she will be at Bradford (kwlest) end and not at the away (mingers) end.

MAD Holiday

Hi All,

I have booked the 2008 holiday.

We are going to Angling Projects, near London.

It is a big lake with a building to eat, sleep and shower in.

The dates are the 11th to the 15th of August.

All members are invited, so long as you do the fundraising. We also need adults to come with us.

Any families fancy a free holiday?

We have been before, ask Pete & Liam how good it was. The only boring bit is the driving!

There is pike, roach, rudd, perch, tench and some really big ...

MAD LESSONS

Lessons are now split into 2 groups.

Beginners are from 10am - 1pm.

Advanced are 2pm - 5pm.

Anybody can stay on after or before lessons.

1st lesson is on 5th April at Horseshoe Lake.

The 2nd lesson is on the 19th of April, same venue.

Bait will be needed by all those who attend. Only 2 people are exempt from supplying their own bait, they know who they are and the reasons, so please bring enough for your lessons.

Hedgehog Houses, tennis balls & tree stakes

I have some recycling bags, but not many, and they are only small.

I have asked if we can just stick them in a Jiffy bag, or plastic posting sack and use the freepost address and account number, which is fine, but please first check that you are sending only the cartridges that they accept www.cashforcartridges.co.uk and click 'price list'.

They can not accept Epsom, Brother or any toners. Do not send anything ...

Liam and his dad went to littledale on saturday and the weather was perfect! sun and no rain slight breeze, Barry caught a small roach and lost a smallish carp, liam caught a 1 1/4lb roach and an Ide as well as a nice perch (we did better than tom and james though!) p.s liam caught all of his on worm!

I will have some with me at the presentation party. If you can sell a bundle of these (say 10 or 20) at your school or a place of work, let me know and I will bring extra for you.

Me, Tom W and Laim went to villa today and even no carp was caught i lost 1 in the trees down the side but i got roach and bream Tom got some Bream nd a perch and Laim got some roach and bream but he missed a run one his bite alarm but overal it was a good day

Littledale 22nd February 08

MAD went to Littledale in the half term hols to learn winter carp fishing.

The baits needed were worm, caster & maggot.

Alot of fish were caught, nobody blanked. The fish ranged from little perch and medium roach to personal best carp and a new club record perch!

Paul Dockray landed his club record perch weighing 4lb 14oz. It was a blooming big fish!!!

Tom W got his personal best carp on worm, Ashley & Darryl both landed carp on mini boilie and James got several bream.

How much rain have we had recently? Sunday 20th January 2008 was when Peter and I ventured out to a large cumbrian lake hoping to catch a pike or two. With there being so much rain over the previous few days (weeks, months it seems like) I knew there would be quite a bit of extra water in the lake - but I didn't reckon on there being a good 18 inches of extra water. This had quite serious implications on where we would fish because the swim I normally like to drop in at first was now underwater! ...
